Our All Buttoned Up community is growing rapidly during the last months and we are very thankful for that! In this series ‘Rude Roots’ we are asking our own community about their lives, their passion, and love for alternative culture, music, art and other stories. After a small break, we talked to Canada-based Loic le Tatoué about prejudices about Skinheads, being proud and true to yourself.

Introduction

Question

Hey there Loic le tatoué. Thanks for your time! How are you doing?

Growing up

Question

Can you tell us a bit about where you grew up? How were those times?

answer

I spent my childhood and part of my teenage years in a working-class neighborhood in the Paris region. it was late 80s early 90s, you know that time when we are always looking for adventures and bad things to do, it was great!!

Question

You moved to Canada. How’s the alternative scene in Canada?

answer

there is a big punk and skinhead scene in Montreal, a lot of shows, especially the oifest in April in the mythical bar of the underground scene “les foufounes électriques”

I am a fighter

Question

How would you describe yourself? And oldskool Skinhead?

answer

I’m a fighter, I very often get what I want, my motto: everything comes to the point to those who give themselves the means. I am very loyal and faithful to those I love. I think oldschool skins are like that too…

Question

What does being a Skinhead mean to you?

answer

Above all a state of mind, a musical culture and this style of dress that we love so much!! It also takes courage to assume this unfamiliar style!

Question

We had a brief chat already and you told us that you receive a lot of nasty comments. What are people saying and what are your thoughts? Educate us!

answer

in the mind of many people skinhead = racist because of the movies they see or the bad racist skins you see on TV, so I’m often told that I could never go out in the street dressed like that, or I get insulted as a racist, a Nazi, or that a good Skin is a dead Skin. It’s sad that people are not educated.

Prejudiced

Question

Why are people so prejudiced do you think?

answer

Because of the Proud Boys and other extreme right organizations that we see in the media and TV, and films like American History X.

Fashion

Question

What’s your favourite outfit? Why?

answer

I really love traditional style like Rudeboy and Ska style. So class, the roots!!

Question

We see that you love Fred Perry and Trojan Horse Records clothing a lot! Where do those brand stand for in your opinion?

answer

It represents quality and pride for Fred Perry. I love Trojan clothing the authentic style of their clothes.

Question

You have a lot of tattoos! What do they represent?

answer

All my life my joys, my pains, my prides, mistakes too and moments of drunk guys.

Question

The world is changing of course. What is in your opinion the biggest difference between the times now and back then?

answer

Today we are judged very quickly on a simple glance. With social networks it is even worse: the intolerance and the wickedness of many people.

Music

Question

We all love music. What’s your top 5 artists/bands?

answer

1. Les Beruriers Noirs
2. Les Ramoneurs De Menhirs
3. The Skinflicks
4. Mess
5. The specials

Top 5 playlist of Loic.

Question

What bars or venues do you love to hang out?

answer

Irish pubs with my friends, cinema and Thai restaurant with my wife.

Question

How would you rate your local music scene? There’s a lot happening or could it be better?

answer

There are still a lot of Punk and OI!-shows, but it lacks traditional Ska.

Question

Do you think the Skinhead-scene will live on the way it is now or will it die out or change forms?

answer

I think that because of social networks it is a movement that will never die, because also the people who are in it are passionate and transmit this passion.

Question

What’s the most important in life?

answer

Be happy, take responsibility and have a reliable entourage.

Question

Great advice Loic! Final question: anything you would like to add to the readers and followers of All Buttoned Up? 🙂

answer

Yes of course ! never do anything for people’s eyes, and what is important is to assume what we are, and be proud of what we are!

Question

Wise words my friend! Thank you so much for your time and stay rude!

      Hey FAKE 🤡 ,

We had a very nice conversation with Loic and as you can read he learned from his ‘mistakes’. It seems that you having a hard time forgiving people and we like to ask you the question: why do you care SO much about Loic instead of focussing on yourself making yourself a better person every day?

Let’s please keep things nice and respectful over here and read the houserules before commenting, because we would like to keep this community nice for everyone. Have a rude day lads!
